Introduction
The Philosophy of Humanism often cites Protagoras, a fifth-century BC Greek philosopher, as its earliest advocate of Humanism. His much-quoted axiom is:
Man is the measure of all things, of things that are that they are, and of things that are not that they are not.
In other words, mankind is the highest ruling authority over all things. According to humanists, science, reason, and intelligence are the guiding lights through which mankind will discover all things necessary for life and happiness.
Fundamental to humanism is their belief that humans originated and evolved from nature (not created by God). The highly respected Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History teaches humans evolved from “apelike ancestors” over the past “six million years.” After “two million years” of crawling on all four limbs, we evolved to the point of walking upright on two legs. In their theoretical minds, humans comprise just one part of the greater ecosystem and we must protect and preserve the planet for the next billion years if the human species is to survive. Humans, along with fish, birds, chickens, rodents, cockroaches, and all living creatures and plants are all codependent on nature. Humanists say we owe our existence, life, and longevity to mother nature, not a nonexistent God.
What is Humanism or Secular Humanism?
The American Humanist Association defines its philosophy in the following way. It is a philosophy that rejects God in favor of personal responsibility and fulfillment of life.
Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good.
Cloaked in pseud science, humanists theorize and believe the origin of all life is mother nature. All life, the universe, and all that exist were not created by a supernatural God as the Bible teaches. Moreover, they completely reject the idea that humans have a soul and spirit that lives on after the body dies. There is no God, afterlife, eternal life, heaven or hell, reward or punishment, or anything that exists once you are dead. They explain it in this way:
In his System of Nature, Baron d’Holbach, summed up the materialist attitude toward religious supernaturalism: “If we go back to the beginning of things, we shall always find that ignorance and fear created the gods; that imagination, rapture, and deception embellished or distorted them; that weakness worships them; that credulity [gullibility] nourishes them; that custom spares them; and that tyranny favors them in order to profit from the blindness of men.”
As you drill down into the humanist’s philosophy you will discover an unprovable theory overshadowed by an aggressive preoccupation with denying God’s existence. Corliss Lamont’s book, The Philosophy of Humanism, mentions God 201 times, religion 178 times, Christian 65 times, Christianity 30 times, faith 58 times, supernatural 157 times, spiritual 32 times, the resurrection 13 times, Jesus 26 times, salvation 9 times, theology 13 times, and eternal 34 times. From cover to cover Lamont twists the Scriptures, mocks, defames, ridicules, disdains, and attacks God and those who believe in God. Humanists view people of faith as ignorant, weak, deceived, blind, foolish, and uneducated dopes. While humanists are losing the battle of conversion they are actively sowing the seeds of confusion and causing some to doubt their faith in God. The book could easily be titled God Cancelled.
Humanism is not real science but exploits science to advocate its anti-God theories and philosophy. Humanism is based on unprovable evolutionary theories and hypotheses of the single-cell multiplication to multi-cellular human beings over possibly 4 billion years. Humanism is a kind of religious creed that requires more trust and faith in the unknown than factual evidence. There is no scientific evidence that proves Humanism or Evolution is true, only theories and philosophies being taught and based on assumptions and supposition. When people reject God as the sole architect and creator of life, they need to present some kind of plausible explanation, and that is what Humanism and Evolution theories and philosophies hide behind—pseudo-science.
Why did the humanists cancel God?
The existence of God and the Scriptures stand as a complete refutation of all that humanists and evolutionists theorize and hypothesize about the origin of the human race. One can not blend the two teachings because each is diametrically opposed to the other. People are generally divided into two camps with a sizable percentage stuck in the middle. These middle-grounders neither fully convinced by either camp are largely conflicted and struggling to define what they believe. The humanists are working hard to cancel God and win new converts. Therefore, humanists and evolutionists have declared war against any and all that believe in the existence of God and reject the theory of evolution and humanism.
The Genesis account of creation says God created all things that exist in six days by merely speaking them into existence. Genesis chapters 1-2 are clearly contradictory to the evolutionist false proposition of a several billion-year-old planet and universe.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Gen. 1:1)
In Matthew 19:4-5, Jesus references the Genesis account of God creating man and woman both male and female which reveals Jesus certainly believed God was the Creator. Both the Apostle Paul (Romans 5:12-21, 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, 1 Corinthians 15:45-47) and Timothy (1 Timothy 2:12-14) reference Adam and Eve as the first humans created by God. Therefore, humanists and evolutionists must undermine, discredit, and utterly destroy the Bible and Christianity to advance their false theories. They completely reject God’s intelligent design and credit nature for all that exists.
It is essential that Christians understand that the philosophy of Humanism and the theory of Evolution are useful tools of the Antichrist. It is not possible and a huge mistake to try and harmonize them with the Scripture. It would be like asking Satan to tell you the truth about God!
The negative impact of a Godless world.
In a Godless society, people live for this life only without any forethought of one day being held accountable in the afterlife. This thinking leads to a confusing deterioration of moral correctness. With God canceled the humanist is free to redefine and reinvent a new morality. Humanists say ethics, morals, and values do not come from a mythical God but must be discovered and derived from our human experience. Ethical behavior is considered autonomous and governed by the person’s situation, there is no need for theological approval. One’s own human needs and interests dictate right and wrong. Whatever feels right becomes common practice even if the mythical God said it is not beneficial, good, or right to do. Unfortunately, many who reject God are already well on their way to this type of thinking.
The alarming corruption of societal morals and values results when a nation and its people turn away from God. The recent nationwide decline in sexual morality is a direct result of the humanist anti-God agenda. God’s design for sexuality is now openly viewed as repressive, bigoted, and harmful to the gender-bender crowd. Given the circumstances, you could be charged with a hate crime for speaking out against this ungodly behavior.
Humanists say people should follow their sexual passions and pursue whatever lifestyles they desire. Humanists believe there are many genders beyond male and female. The non-binary gender identification seems to be the latest description of those who feel they are neither male nor female. Anatomy and biology no longer determine gender, it’s how you feel about yourself. Teens are encouraged to freely explore their sexual attractions and feelings so they might discover their true gender. All of this is now ubiquitous and being shamelessly practiced before our eyes. God’s view is not relevant because there is no God or Biblical morality. It’s all about what we make up and agree to practice. If it feels good, do it… as long as there is mutual consent.
The crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
The highly documented life of Christ, the New Testament, and the historical records both secular and religious identify Jesus Christ as the Savior of all mankind. The entire world knows that Jesus said he was God’s Son sent from the Father to suffer and die for our sins and grant forgiveness and eternal life to all who believe. Therefore, you must decide whether or not you believe Him. Did he suffer crucifixion and death for your sin? Was he resurrected from the dead just as you will be?
Jesus is either the con artist and fraud that humanists say he is, or he is the Son of God. Each of us must choose. As Jesus told a group of Pharisees nearly 2,000 years ago, “He who is not with me is against me…”
Christians are not kooks promoting some imaginary God and mythical Savior; the historical evidence is overwhelming. Christianity and Christ’s promise of eternal life completely demolish the humanist’s theory and philosophy being taught and accepted by some as factual science when it is nothing more than the religion of mother nature. Consider the following promises of God.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)
Jesus called a man back to life after he was dead for 4 days:
When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” (John 11:43-44
Did you know that over 500 people saw Jesus alive after his resurrection and the Bible records 12 separate appearances of Jesus after his resurrection? Death could not kill Him and the grave could not hold him! He is not a myth, madman, or liar. Jesus proved with many miraculous deeds who He was. He defied the laws of science and nature, proving He was indeed God in the flesh. He whispers “peace be still” and the raging storm stops and the sea becomes like smooth glass. He speaks to the dead and they live again.
Turning back to God for forgiveness and restoration.
There are two realms that exist: the natural and the spiritual. Humanists and evolutionists believe only in the natural realm. Their love is for created things, not the Creator. Those who have turned to God are connected to the spiritual realm having their eyes opened by God’s Spirit living inside every born-again believer. It is by and through God’s Spirit, we communicate with God.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Cor. 2:11-16)
We, humans, have a long history of ignoring God and imagining a world without God. In the Garden of Eden, Satan tricked Eve into imagining and desiring a life without God. Satan painted a picture of enticing deception that caused Eve to reject God so she could become like God and be freed from God’s authority. Since then, Satan has been blinding the minds of people from seeing the truth and turning to God in humility and sincere repentance.
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Spiritual blindness is not the same for everybody. Humanism and evolution or just two things that blind people from believing in God. There are many arguments people use to cancel God out of their lives. Spiritual blindness has many causes, but Christ remains the only cure, the only one who gives sight to the blind.
Jesus said, “I the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
Our nation is rapidly turning away from God to follow the doctrines of devils masquerading as progressiveness. If God, is God to you, then serve Him, love Him, and open your mouth for Him with all the passion and zeal you have. Read your Bible, pray, and get into a good church where the truth is proclaimed.
How to Turn to God
Perhaps at this very moment, you have realized that you need the Lord in your life. Maybe you drifted away or need to be been born again? If so, you can stop right now and begin talking to God. Ask Him to forgive you for being a sinner and for the life you have been living outside of His love. Surrender your life to Him, unconditionally. Call Him Lord and make Him Lord of every thought, attitude, and action. You can say, Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins and come into my heart and take full control of my life. I am your child from this day forward. Change my heart and mind to be Christ-like in every way. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior forever.
