Where Will You Spend Eternity?

Where Will You Spend Eternity?

Without Christ, You Will Face Eternal Separation

God’s love and wrath are inseparable attributes of his character, though not openly taught in the postmodern church. The current norm is avoiding negative preaching while lavishing our listeners with positive loving teaching which is said to fill the church pews. But by all means, steer clear of wrath, judgment, and eternal punishment if you want to preach to a packed house.

Is it so wrong to tell our listeners that the Bible says, “God’s wrath remains on all who reject Christ,” but eternal life is only for believers (John 3:36)? Should we avoid saying, “whoever does not believe stands condemned already” (John 3:18)? Can we proclaim the glories of eternal heaven and neglect to warn of the “unquenchable fires of hell where there will be wailing and gnashing of the teeth” (Mark 9:48)?

We must ask the following:

Should we proclaim a heaven without a hell, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, a new life without a new birth, or a religion without a relationship with God’s Holy Spirit? (several sources)

Has God changed his position on sexual immorality? Is being a hateful person now ok? Is selfishness, jealousy, and being envious of others now cool? Is that fit of rage now justifiable because your child or spouse angered you? Are drug and alcohol intoxication now good things?

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

The message of God is “good news” to all who repent of their sins and are born again, but if we fail to respond to the good news, we will suffer the really bad news of eternal separation from God’s presence.

When Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:4-26) He shared the good news of “living water” that could quench a lifetime of thirst and impart eternal life. Excitedly the woman said, “give me this water.” Jesus responded, “Go, call your husband and come back.” She replied, “I have no husband.

Now those familiar with the story know that the woman had 5 previous husbands (perhaps not 5 marriages) and the man she now was living with (#6) was not her husband. There would be no living water until she was confronted with her sexually immoral life. “Give me this water” that possesses eternal life was met with you are a sexually immoral woman.

With each of us, our sin situation is different, but all must come to a place of repentance for the ungodly life we are leading or have led, else there will be no new birth. There must be a point of conviction of sin by God’s Holy Spirit before we turn to Christ for forgiveness and a new life. Everyone is a sinner and must understand they deserve to be nailed to that cross instead of Jesus. He took our punishment for our sins. Forgiveness requires repentance.

The Bible declares that there is no one who loves us more than God. He is our creator, our protector, our strength, our healer, our deliverer, our savior, our Lord, and the giver of eternal life. He suffered our punishment and forgives our sins. There is absolutely no one in all creation like God or who can be compared to Him. But unless you truly repent and are actually born again as Jesus taught, you will remain an unregenerate sinner separated from God and on your way to hell and eternal separation from God.

When you consider the matchless mercy, grace, love, forgiveness, and eternal life found only in Christ how can anyone continue on the path to eternal separation?

How to Turn to God

Perhaps at this very moment, you have realized that you need the Lord in your life. Maybe you drifted away or need to be been born again? If so, you can stop right now and begin talking to God. Ask Him to forgive you for being a sinner and the life you have been living outside of His love. Surrender your life to Him, unconditionally. Call Him Lord and make Him Lord of every thought, attitude, and action. You can say, Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins and come into my heart and take full control of my life. I am your child from this day forward. Change my heart and mind to be Christ-like in every way. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior forever.
