Destroying America’s Conscience
Are You A Victim Of The Scheme To Systematically Desensitize The American Conscience?
Involuntary systematic desensitization is occurring daily across our land and in our homes. Our encounters with shock and awe are broadcast into our homes, across the Internet, in our newspapers and now appear regularly in social media. Murder, abortion, rape, violent assaults, shootings, terrorism, beheadings and mass murders are destroying the consciences of both adults and children. It’s not just heinous crimes eroding our moral judgment, we are bombarded by a radical liberal agenda of sexual immorality, sexual perversion, class envy, race baiting, and nearly every form of ungodliness known. All these things conspire to gradually and involuntarily desensitize our conscience.
“Systematic desensitization” is a clinical process employed by some psychotherapists to help people overcome fear, anxiety and phobias. Recently, I was speaking with a therapist about the effectiveness of systematic desensitization as a treatment for her patients. She assured me that it was a very effective treatment and she used it regularly. Here’s how it works.
Through repetitive exposure to one’s fears, punctuated by relaxation therapy, we are gradually desensitized. The once troubling, upsetting or unpleasant experience that created the fear or anxiety becomes tolerable and acceptable.
The negative use of systematic desensitization is illustrated in the first book of the Bible where Satan uses deceptive lying language to desensitize Eve from God’s command not to eat the forbidden fruit, Gen. 3:1-7. Eventually, Eve is totally desensitized by Satan’s therapeutic lies and reasoning. She becomes overwhelmed by the promise of new pleasures and power that Satan has convinced her she is unfairly being deprived of by an underhanded God. Consequently, Eve cast aside God’s command to never eat the forbidden fruit and loses all fear of God’s punishment for disobedience which is death. She disregards God’s loving care and provision as one would a tyrant’s rule and stretches her hand out to grasp the forbidden fruit of rebellion. Any of this sound familiar to you?
In a social sense, radical liberals have put forth an agenda of in your face systematic desensitization and then tell us it’s all normal—relax. Broadcast, Internet and print media make their living by focusing on the most shocking, sensational, disturbing, immoral and disgusting stories they can create or find. Obscenity, indecency, and profanity have become standard fare. What was once called “yellow journalism” is now called “click bait.” Beliefs and behaviors considered wrong or ungodly are now repackaged as acceptable—almost nothing is off-limits. Gradually and systematically all that God says “thou shalt not do” seems perfectly fine to do. The daily repetitive exposure to what the Bible calls sin and unrighteousness is so prevalent that it is gradually and systematically destroying our consciences. We hardly wince at the anything goes world crumbling around us. The “thus saith the Lord” generation has gradually succumbed to the desensitizing forces of in your face sin. We are drowning in a sea of corruption and few really seem to know or care. Behaviors and lifestyles that have the potential consequences of landing one in a place called hell are now considered normal behavior. The forbidden fruit of corruption has become a daily staple of the deceived.
In Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus describes his followers as the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world.” Unfortunately, today we have too many saltless saints and lightless believers. We substitute excitement for anointing. We have confused attendance with repentance, membership with salvation. Our pulpits are occupied with pastors, elders and overseers that do not guard themselves or the flock (Acts 20:28). It is sad to say, but you will possibly find more salt and light in one Billy Graham sermon than in the majority of our church pulpits today.
Christian saltiness prevents decay and corruption through its preservative qualities. Our righteous salty presence among the ungodly makes if difficult for the corruption of sin to flourish. The light of Christ in us shines brightly to dispel the darkness wherever we go. Light conquers darkness and even the unsaved can benefit from the glow. We must not lose our saltiness and hide our light. It matters not how we are labeled or criticized by the world; what matters is that we remain salty and shine brightly so others can find their way to salvation. We must not, we can not and we shall not yield to the darkness of this present age; the cost would be too great.
The apostle Paul spoke of a time when some of our consciences would fail because they were “seared as with a hot iron,” 1 Timothy 4:2. The red-hot branding iron of radical liberal ideology is searing the consciences of children, teens and many adults to the extent they are losing all sensitivity and embracing unrighteousness as though it were a virtuous lifestyle. Listen as the apostle Paul explains this point to the church at Ephesus:
So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. (Ephesians 4:17-19 NIV)
The radical liberal ideologues of today resemble the ungodly Gentiles Paul references in verse 17. Their thinking is morally depraved. They are without understanding, ignorant of truth, hard-hearted, desensitized (beyond feelings) and separated (alienated) from God by their ignorance. Moreover, these ideologues are victimizing our families, running our country, making our laws and legislating a culture of corruption. They are turning America into a godless immoral cesspool. They are God haters hiding behind a thin veil of empty religious traditions that they neither believe nor practice.
It is our responsibility to share the good news with the unsaved. The salt cannot remain isolated in the salt shaker. Salt must be applied for its preservative attributes to be effective. We must interact with society while resisting the temptation to embrace its radical liberal ideology. We must not become desensitized victims, but instead we must be transformed by God’s word—the renewing of our minds.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2 NIV)
The near death of morality is inextricably linked to gradual systematic desensitization of our conscience. To avoid being victimized we must continually renew our minds with God’s word to neutralize the desensitizing forces of radical liberalism.
In Ephesians 5:6 the apostle Paul warns us not to be deceived by the “empty words” of this world. Their words are void of truth, crafted to manipulate, mislead and deceive people into everything that opposes God. Their conversation is designed to systematically desensitize the world. Their conversation lacks truth and wisdom. These radical liberals depict the Christian community and biblical morals as bigoted asininity. We are falsely accused of hatred, stupidity and viewed as objects of derision. We are openly mocked in the media and ridiculed for following the Scriptures and God’s ways. The liberals speak of tolerance and respect for all religious views, but not Christianity. You may mock and ridicule Christianity at will. This radical liberal ideology is rooted in spiritual wickedness.
While there are those who are willing prisoners of deception’s darkness, those who are reprobates and appear unreachable, most are just as I was, a prisoner trapped in a world of spiritual deception. Like so many others I was truly unaware and blind to the darkness and deception that I once lived in. I could not see the wrong in wrong or the right in right. Right was wrong and wrong was right. I saw and heard everything and yet understood nothing—just a pawn, a patsy of Satan’s schemes. However, one day the light of the gospel shined into the abyss of darkness and God rescued me. I was blind, but now I see!
Let your light shine!
