10 Reasons Why We Reject God

10 Reasons Why We Reject God

Are You Among Those Rejecting God?

rejecting-god-fbAccording to a 2015  Pew Research survey, roughly 9 out of 10 Americans believe in the existence of God or a universal spirit. When asked if they were absolutely certain God exists, the number plunged to roughly 63% or 6 out of 10.

Believing in the existence of God is not the same as responding to God’s call for personal repentance and committing our lives to Jesus as our Lord and Savior. If we have not repented and been born again according to the scriptures, we are rejecting God’s salvation plan and remain in our sins. In James 2:19 we learn that even demons believe in God and are afraid, so what value is there in believing in God if you are rejecting Jesus as your Savior and Lord? What benefit is salvation if we refuse to turn to God in true repentance? Will God accept our excuses for rejecting Him? Will He make exceptions for our unwillingness to obey his call for true repentance?

10 Reasons Why We Reject God.

1   I Am Not A Bad Person.

We humans do not see ourselves as bad people on our way to hell. Moreover, we are reasonably convinced there is nothing about us that deserves eternal separation from God. We often defend this reasoning by comparing ourselves to murderers, rapists, criminals or some infamous evil person. However, we read in Romans 3:23-24 that we are all sinners in need of God’s free gift of redemption through Christ.

2   Fear Of Social Reprisal

We all need the love, friendship, and acceptance of family and friends. Unfortunately, we know all too well that true repentance and faith in God carry the possibility of unleashing criticism and social rejection from our inner circle. We risk being cast as social lepers by those we love. It is easier to reject God than become a social outcast.

3   Fear Of Harassment Or Persecution.

The ungodly world hated Jesus and crucified Him on the cross. Jesus spoke about this hatred in John 15:18: “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” Some who have turned to Christ and were born again have experienced being fired from a job, hated by family, lost their spouse or fiance, or killed for being a Christian. The fear of these possible experiences is reason enough for some to avoid turning to God.

4   Love To Sin

Many of us live lives of moral depravity and love to sin. We are sexually promiscuous, play fast and loose with the truth (lie), slander, gossip, cheat, steal and manipulate. We are vulgar, profane, consumed by drugs or alcohol addiction and a host of other forbidden practices that we know are wrong, but make excuses for in our own minds. We know the corruption of our hearts and understand that turning to God would mean a lifestyle change that would involve turning away from such behavior. Unfortunately, we love our forbidden ways so much that we refuse to live without them.

5   Busy Earning A Living

The workaholic has no time for God, church, Bible reading, prayer, or spiritual things. They hold no real tangible value in their minds. They often reason that you can’t pay bills, buy groceries, pay tuition, put a roof over your head, and earn a living by becoming a church-going Christian. They are continuously preoccupied with the acquisition of money and assets at the expense of spiritual matters.

6   Hard Hearts

Some of us have hard hearts. The more we hear about God the harder our hearts become. We have no sensitivity or compassion toward God or others. This callousness of our mind and heart acts as an impenetrable defensive barrier. We are locked down and nothing is getting in. The hardness of heart against God dates back to the beginning of the human race and Hebrews 3:7-11 warns of its consequences.

7   Broken Heartedness

The sad reality of brokenness is a world most of us are truly unfamiliar with. Brokenhearted people often find it difficult to turn to God because they kind of hold God responsible for life’s griefs and sorrows that have devastated their lives. To lose a baby or small child to sickness, become a rape victim, face infidelity, be beaten within an inch of losing your life, suffer the loss of everything you own, or some other horrible life-altering experience that can leave you totally devastated and suffering from a broken heart. Nevertheless, there is good news for the brokenhearted. Jesus promised in Luke 4:18 that He came to heal and restore the brokenhearted. Don’t blame or resist the healer of broken hearts.

8   The Bible Is Not God’s Word

Some folks reject the Bible as truly being God’s word. To some of us, it’s a fairy tale made up by men to control everyone’s behavior. The fact that there exist hundreds of religions all claiming to represent God is often used as an argument against the Bible’s claims to be God’s word. Everyone can’t be right?

9   There Is No God

Some of us doubt or reject the existence of God. We are not convinced that God is real or that one day we must all give an account of the life we now live. When you die you are dead and that’s it, it is over. There is no need for a savior, prayer, God’s forgiveness, or any other spiritual or eternal belief because God is not real. Psalm 14:1 declares that we are fools to say “there is no God.”

10  Deceived By A False Sense Of Religious Security

Being deceived by a “form of godliness” (religion) can keep us from true repentance and being born again. Many people have rejected an authentic relationship with God and opted for a self-styled religion. Some of the most religious leaders in the Bible, the Pharisees, rejected God the Father and His Son Jesus. Today many of us have attached ourselves to “some form of godliness” that is only a mere appearance of salvation while rejecting God the Father and His Son Jesus.

Conclusion

If today we were called from this life to appear in the presence of Almighty God, what do you think He would say?

The teaching of Jesus is plain and simple, you must be born again to enter Heaven.

Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”  (Jn. 3:3)

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. (Jn. 3:5)

After the resurrection of Jesus, the apostles were instructed to proclaim God’s plan of salvation to the world. During the apostle Peter’s very first message to the crowd that had gathered, over 3,000 were convinced in their hearts that Jesus was the savior of the world. They asked Peter, “what shall we do?”

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:38)

The choice is ours to make.

Perhaps at this very moment, you have realized you need the Lord in your life. Maybe you drifted away from God or need to be been born again? If so, you can stop right now and begin talking to God. Ask Him to forgive you for being a sinner and the life you have been living outside of His love. Surrender your life to Him, unconditionally. Call Him Lord and make Him Lord over every thought, attitude, and action. You can say, Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins and come into my heart and take full control of my life. I am your child from this day forward. Change my heart and mind to be Christ-like in every way. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior forever.

If you prayed that prayer we would love to hear back from you.
