Is The World About To End?
Does The Bible Say We Are Living In The Last Days?
The Bible clearly teaches our world will one day end. Jesus spoke of end times signs in Mat. 24:4-14. The Apostle Paul mentions what the last days would look like in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. In Rev. 21:1-5, the Apostle John speaks of a new heaven and earth where pain, mourning, and death will no longer exist. In 2 Peter 3:7, the Apostle Peter tells us that this present world will be destroyed by fire and the ungodly will be destroyed. No one can predict the exact time this will happen but the Bible gives us a general idea of the last days just prior to the Lord’s return and the end of the world. Here are some of the things to look for and even now are beginning to unfold.
The Bible reveals rejecting God and His promises would become increasingly acceptable practice during the last days. Openly mocking and ridiculing God would be ubiquitous. With little or no desire for God, people will follow their pent-up evil desires and reject what is right. Scoffing and mocking the return of Jesus will rise to unprecedented levels during the last days.
Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 2 Peter 3:3-4
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 2 Timothy 3:1-5
The decline in Bible-believing Christians who actually practice their faith is growing. According to Barner Research Group, only 1 in 4 or 25% of Americans are practicing Christians. The other 75% are non-Christian or non-practicing Christians (Christian in name only). This decrease in Bible-believing Christians has helped usher in the corruption of the past two decades. The moral deterioration that ushered in abortion on demand has been expanded to include wanton sexual immorality, cohabitation instead of marriage, same-sex relationships, and same-sex marriages all being considered acceptable behavior. This decadence has led to confused men thinking they are women and being allowed to compete in women’s sports, using the women’s bathroom, and a complete gender denial. It’s become so bizarre that when a recent U.S. Supreme court nominee was asked to define what a woman is she declined and said, “I can’t… I’m not a biologist.”
Some folks believe sin is sin and it’s all the same, but this is misleading. You can’t divorce your spouse because they lied to you, got angry, cursed at you, or acted pridefully, all of which are sins. However, if they cheat and have sexual relations with someone else then this is grounds for a biblical divorce. So, while sin is sin, some sinful behavior carries devastating consequences and damages lives.
The Bible tells us that God used Sodom and Gomorrah as an example of His judgment because of their sexual sins and sexual perversion. It is now obvious that we are becoming a modern-day sexually perverted Sodom and Gomorrah which indicates God’s judgment is imminent—not something to ignore but seriously consider.
In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. Jude 1:7
For many years the world viewed homosexuality as completely unnatural and a mental disorder that required medical treatment by a psychiatrist while the Bible identifies it as sinful and forbidden behavior. Now we are told that same-sex relationships are perfectly normal behavior. We, like Sodom and Gomorrah, have given ourselves over to sexual immorality and sexual perversion. We even legalized same-sex marriages. It seems that the further we drift from God the more sexually deviant we become. Moreover, there has been little to no preaching or teaching from our pulpits about God’s biblical perspective on sexual perversion and sexual immorality.
For over 100 years the American Psychiatric Association classified homosexuality as a mental disorder until 1974 when the 20,000 member association succumbed to cultural pressures and changed its view from a mental disorder to a person’s sexual orientation. Almost overnight the gay agenda was born and same-sex proponents began the fight for society’s full acceptance and normalization of homosexuality. The last major obstacle preventing normalization was the right to marry a person of the same sex. The Supreme Court’s ruling legalizing same-sex marriages has paved the way for a forbidden new normal. (Marriage and Sexuality by Design, by R. J. Chopin)
We have also seen an unprecedented rise in slander, lies, hatred, and deception across our political landscape supported and aided by the media and a liberal agenda that rejects Christianity and God. Atheism and Agnosticism are also rising as people abandon the God of the Bible for humanistic philosophies that doubt or deny the existence of God.
The Apostle Paul warns us in 2 Thessalonians 2:3, to watch for a great falling away from the Christian faith. Jesus tells us there are going to be great signs in the universe that will be undeniably supernatural and the whole earth will see him as he returns.
“Immediately after the distress of those days “‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. 30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[c] will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. (Matthew 24:29-30)
Is the world about to end? Well, no one knows for sure but the signs of the last days and end times are certainly undeniable. I urge everyone to read the Scriptures for themselves. If you are uncertain as to your spiritual relationship with God and you know you are not right with God—read on.
How to Turn to God
Perhaps at this very moment, you have realized that you need the Lord in your life. Maybe you drifted away or need to be been born again? If so, you can stop right now and begin talking to God. Ask Him to forgive you for being a sinner and the life you have been living outside of His love. Surrender your life to Him, unconditionally. Call Him Lord and make Him Lord of every thought, attitude, and action. You can say, Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins and come into my heart and take full control of my life. I am your child from this day forward. Change my heart and mind to be Christ-like in every way. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior forever.
