Understanding Hatred
Why Does The World Hate Christianity?
Hatred for Jesus Christ and His believers is a widespread growing concern here in America and globally. This burning glowing hatred for Christ and godliness seems illogical to even the unenlightened natural mind. To hate evil is a logical mindset, but to hate He who is good, decent, just, merciful, loving, forgiving, patient, kind and offers eternal life is absurdly wrong. Hatred for Christ, His message, and His followers are void of reason and a just cause, or are they?
When the object of hatred is what is good, decent, and completely holy (Christ), we understand the root cause to be an evil, dark, and corrupt heart. It is hatred perverted. It is evil hating good instead of good hating evil. Moreover, we who are evil, in that our evil sinful nature corrupted our hearts, are loved by God—not hated. Therefore, Christ who loves us, but hates our evil sins, took upon himself the punishment for all of our sins that He might remove them. But how can we be washed clean from the evil corruption of our sinful nature when we love our wicked unrighteous ways and hate Christ and His followers who have been given the message of repentance, forgiveness, and a restored relationship to God our creator through Christ?
Hated for Christ and His followers flows from the wicked and unrighteous heart that cares more for the immoral ungodly lifestyle than it does for Christ. In the dark recesses of our sinful hearts, Christ’s light shines and exposes our wretched ways. His presence illuminates our hidden corruption either to our shame or our resentment for having been called out. In such moments of conviction, we should fall to our knees completely humbled by guilt and shame. Unfortunately, many resist Christ, resenting and hating Him for having exposed their sin, corrupt thoughts, and practices. This resentment of Christ and his truth can evolve into disliking, resisting, shunning, hating, and is sometimes manifested in verbally assaulting, and even physical persecution resulting in death. Fox’s Book of Martyrs records the countless number of Christian persecutions beginning with the early church through the 1800s.
In John’s Gospel, Jesus foretold of the coming persecution his followers would face at the hands of hate-filled people who rejected and resented Christ.
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God. (John 3:19-20)
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’ (John 15:18-25)
The Christian principles upon which our country was founded are eroding under the weight of a growing biblically illiterate society who are turning from the Lord to embrace all kinds of ungodliness. The thin veil of hypocrisy that once concealed the hatred of Christ and his followers has all but vanished from today’s world. The arrogant verbal assaults against Christ, truth, godliness, and righteousness are clearly in season. Those with hate-filled hearts who have rejected Christ are intoxicated with an insatiable love for the deeds of darkness—but they are not without a remedy.
The Bible says the solution to all of our problems can only be found in Christ. There is no other way. He is the only way, truth, and life. We must lift up the name of Jesus and proclaim Him as God’s divine son and Savior of the world.
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
Pastor, preach Christ and Him crucified for our sins. Pastor, passionately urge all to repent and turn to Christ. Brothers and Sisters in Christ, let your light shine and share Christ with all so they might come to the saving knowledge of Jesus. Bible teachers, teach Christ and the truth. Everyone pray for a revival that begins in you and overflows to the lost and dying world, for Christ died for the ungodly so that those who believe might receive eternal life.
