The Desperate Cry of Wisdom
Have You Heard Her Voice?
Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; 21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: 22 How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? (Proverbs 1:20-23 ESV)
Wisdom is not the only voice calling for our attention; there are many misleading passionate voices masquerading as wisdom, each claiming to be the voice of right. There is no shortage of books, videos, lectures, podcasts, educators, talk shows, political activist groups, religion, media pundits, social media posts, coworkers, and neighbors all pounding the table of reason and right. Unfortunately, the collective wisdom of these voices misses the mark. They are woefully insufficient in that they are bound by our human reasoning and our natural mind.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. (Proverbs 16:25 ESV)
Human wisdom is not God’s wisdom. Recognizing true wisdom begins with identifying and embracing God’s wisdom above all others. What makes this difficult is the highly seductive nature of human wisdom that opposes God’s wisdom.
Everything must be filtered through the word of God because it is the only reliable standard we have—the Holy Scriptures. There are far too many misleading, deceptive, and manipulative voices arguing they know best. These seductive arguments are highly sophisticated and rely on irrational reasoning, emotional triggers, and the unenlightened mind which is part of the base nature of natural thinking. The unilluminated natural mind is of itself corrupt and untrustworthy to provide true wisdom and proper guidance. God’s wisdom and knowledge are transcendent in every way to our flawed human wisdom. Who could dare say or even imagine they know better than God—only a fool. Go ahead and play God for a moment. Scoop up a handful of dirt and breath on it. Did you create a human being? Nope. So why would anyone think they know better than God our creator?
Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14 for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15 She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. (Proverbs 3:13-15 ESV)
God declares His wisdom and knowledge is better than acquiring gold, silver, or jewels. Is God lying? Is it possible our values are all jacked up?
So often we scurry down the path of vain dreams, death, and destruction adamantly convinced that we are right. We consider the matter, research the matter, discuss the matter, consult our social media friends, ask the alleged experts, counsel with our highly trusted friends, and then chart a flawed path of life that will ultimately be detrimental to us. Convinced that we are absolutely right we run down the path of life only to discover we have made some really awful choices. In our heartache and pain we blame others for our troubles, not ever understanding we are the ones that chose our path. All this is done while ignoring, opposing, and rejecting God’s wisdom.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (Proverbs 9:10 ESV)
True wisdom and knowledge can only begin by recognizing God is our Creator and Lord. It’s not enough to say you believe this; you must act upon it. Like the prodigal son in Luke 15:17-20 who rejected his father to live far from his oversight in a distant land, one day came to his senses, got up, and headed home. It is only when we turn to the Lord and open our hearts in sincere repentance will the wisdom and knowledge of God be manifested in our lives. Those who fail or refuse to call on God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness are limited to the darkness of this world and all its philosophies that in the end lead to a miserable life and eternal separation from the Father.
The limitations of our natural mind is an unworthy opponent for the diabolical sophisticated schemes strategically aligned against us by the prince of darkness. Their goal is a catastrophic loss. Those voices of confusion impersonating truth, wisdom, and knowledge blind our minds to the extent that the true wisdom of God is rejected and cast down as ridiculous garbage. Many voices demand our attention, but there is only one who is wise and He is God! God’s amazing love compelled Him to send Jesus to rescue us from our sinful lives and bring us into a new life and relationship with the Father. To grant us undeserved favor and kindness.
Everything must be filtered through the word of God. All our values and sense of right and wrong, good and evil are found in God’s wisdom and knowledge. God’s supernatural wisdom and knowledge provide direction, purpose, and meaning to our lives. All this is ours because of God’s love for us! Isn’t it time to turn to the Lord?
Wisdom is crying out in the street and she is calling you by name!
How to Turn to God
Perhaps at this very moment, you have realized that you need the Lord in your life. Maybe you drifted away or need to be been born again? If so, you can stop right now and begin talking to God. Ask Him to forgive you for being a sinner and the life you have been living outside of His love. Surrender your life to Him, unconditionally. Call Him Lord and make Him Lord of every thought, attitude, and action. You can say, Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins and come into my heart and take full control of my life. I am your child from this day forward. Change my heart and mind to be Christ-like in every way. I confess Jesus is my Lord and Savior forever.
