When God Became a Man

When God Became a Man

His Name Shall Be Called Immanuel

Jesus is the most famous person in the world. His name, birth, and life are unparalleled. He has positively influenced and changed countless millions throughout the ages. His mission was not to condemn but to save all people from their sins. The Bible says:

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:16)

Speaking about Jesus’ first appearance on earth, John the Apostle tells us:

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

God came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, “the Word became flesh.” This same “Word [Jesus] was with God and the Word was God” (John 1:1). It was during a supernatural visitation, that God’s supernatural genetic material or God’s DNA and RNA (if it is correct to say) impregnated Mary by the Holy Spirit and Jesus was conceived. Jesus was both God and man. Though he was God in the flesh he humbled himself as a man suffering our punishment on the cross to save us from our sin, something to be spiritually grasped.

When God became the man, Jesus Christ, he did so to rescue us from our sins and heal our broken hearts that are so deeply troubled in this life. The heavy load life lays on us at times feels like we are shouldering an elephant. Whether the fault and failure lie with ourselves, others, financial distress, sickness, disappointments, or some other circumstances, Jesus knows our every weakness and will never leave or desert us, but will lead us through our gloomy days and darkest nights. He truly came to restore what is broken on the inside. The mercy, grace, and forgiveness he offers can dynamically change your life even if you consider yourself to be of little or no importance in this life—God dearly loves you. The church of Jesus Christ has always been a place where broken people are miraculously made whole.

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29so that no one may boast before him. 30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” (1 Cor 26-31)

It is wrong to think God doesn’t know who you are and feel what you are facing or going through. He knows every detail of your life, even the hairs on your head are numbered (Luke 12:7). Remember, no one is more acquainted with rejection, betrayal, pain, suffering, being falsely accused, and being deserted by his best friends who were too afraid to even say they knew him. Even the apostle Peter began cursing and swearing that he didn’t know Jesus. Nevertheless, Jesus walked to Calvary carrying our cross and was nailed to it for our sins. As he hung dying on the cross feeling forsaken even by God the Father he “cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” The innocent flawless Creator suffered and died on the cross for all of us and in our place. All our sins were transferred onto Jesus (2 Cor. 5:21) and our sin was destroyed in the body of Christ for all who turn to the Lord in repentance and receive forgiveness of sin. So stop thinking he doesn’t care about you!

Consider the powerful words from this 1975 song that remain as current as the day they were first penned:

Oh, how He loves you and me, Oh how He loves you and me. He gave his life, what more could He give? Oh, how He loves you; Oh, how He loves me; Oh, how He loves you and me.

Jesus to Calvary did go, His love for sinners to show. What He did there brought hope from despair. Oh, how He loves you; Oh, how He loves me; Oh, how He loves you and me.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      (Song Writter: Kurt Kaiser,1975)

How to Turn to God

Perhaps at this very moment, you have realized that you need the Lord in your life. Maybe you drifted away or need to be been born again? If so, you can stop right now and begin talking to God. Ask Him to forgive you for being a sinner and the life you have been living outside of His love. Surrender your life to Him, unconditionally. Call Him Lord and make Him Lord of every thought, attitude, and action. You can say, Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins and come into my heart and take full control of my life. I am your child from this day forward. Change my heart and mind to be Christ-like in every way. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior forever.
